(Schaumburg, IL – January 2024) – Three new members began serving in 2024 on the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) Board of Directors. The CBDCE Board of Directors elected Alison Evert, MS, RDN, CDCES®, FADCES, Patricia Hoyson, PhD, DNP, APRN-FNP, CDCES®, and Joanne Rinker, MS, RDN, CDCES®, BC-ADM, LDN, FADCES.
Alison Evert is a diabetes and nutrition education specialist. Alison has held the CDCES credential for over 30 years. Recently retired, she has provided diabetes care and education and diabetes medical nutrition therapy in various practice settings: in-patient, pediatric endocrinology private practice, and outpatient endocrinology clinics. Most recently, she managed a team of registered dietitians/CDCESs in the University of Washington - Medicine Primary Care Network. Alison is passionate about her CDCES credential and has advocated for the role of the diabetes educator on the healthcare team. Over the years, she has mentored many multidisciplinary healthcare professionals toward achieving the CDCES certification. Alison frequently writes and presents about the role of evidence-based diabetes nutrition therapy for healthcare professionals and people with diabetes. She is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has served as a chair of the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group. Alison recently served as the co-chair of the American Diabetes Association’s 2019 Consensus Report: Nutrition Therapy for Adults with Diabetes and Prediabetes.
Patricia Hoyson is a Professor at the Centofanti School of Nursing at Youngstown State University, where she is the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Throughout her career at YSU, Patricia has been a faculty member and chairperson of the Department of Nursing for ten years. She has twice received the Distinguished Professor Award for Public Service. She is active as an advanced practice textbook reviewer and a reviewer for The Journal for Nurse Practitioners. Patricia is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNPBC) and Telehealth Facilitator. She has worked as a diabetes care and education specialist in acute and primary care settings with individuals across the lifespan as a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner. She has maintained certification as a CDCES for over 37 years. Patricia has served her community as a five-term School Board member in the Jefferson Area Local School System. In addition to her school board activities, she has served on various regional health and local community boards.
Joanne Rinker is a Master’s level dietitian and has been a registered dietitian and CDCES for over 20 years. In 2022, she passed her Board Certification as an Advanced Diabetes Manager. Joanne worked on implementing and facilitating the North Carolina Diabetes Education Recognition Program. As the program coordinator, she was instrumental in building the largest American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized site in the nation. Joanne was named the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) 2013 Diabetes Educator of the Year. She used that opportunity to spread the word about the relationship between diabetes, hearing loss, and depression. She served on the ADCES Board of Directors from 2015-2017 and became an ADCES Spokesperson in January 2016. Joanne left the ADCES Board in 2017 to accept the Senior Director of Practice, Content and Learning position. She worked to expand and revise current practice resources, update and create more interactive educational offerings, and oversee content for each ADCES Annual Conference. Joanne is the Associate Director of Medical Education at Mannkind Corp. Her role includes overseeing CME events and opportunities, building relationships with external partners, serving as the liaison for the field team and the medical education team, and building a medical education strategy.
Alison Evert, Patricia Hoyson, and Joanne Rinker are serving four-year terms that began on January 1, 2024. With their election, they join eight Directors currently serving on the CBDCE Board:
