Honoring Our First Certificants: Celebrating 40 Years of Certification

In October 1986, nearly 1,250 clinicians sat for the first diabetes educator certification examination, helping establish a shared standard for recognizing specialized expertise in diabetes education.

Forty years later, CBDCE is proud to honor 87 professionals who passed the initial certification examination in 1986 and have maintained their certification ever since. Their commitment connects the beginnings of the credential with the diabetes care and education community we celebrate today.

To these longtime Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCESs): thank you for your dedication to people living with diabetes and to the profession. Maintaining certification for 40 years is a milestone worth celebrating.
