(Schaumburg, IL – January 2025) – The Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) announces that Nancy D'Hondt RPh, CDCES®, FADCES, Clinical Pharmacist at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, will serve as the 2025 CBDCE Board of Directors Chair.

Nancy is a clinical pharmacist with over 20 years of experience in diabetes care and education. Her background includes inpatient glycemic policy development and implementation and outpatient wellness services. These experiences have allowed her to understand better the needs of the populations she serves and address the gaps in care. Nancy currently works for Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI, and for a local independent pharmacy, where she continues to advocate for improved access and care for all persons at risk for or affected by diabetes.

She is recognized for her expertise in leadership, quality improvement, and creating a vision for the future. Nancy has a proven track record of driving positive change and improving patient outcomes. Her involvement in the diabetes landscape demonstrates her passion for the specialty. She has served in local and/or national roles for the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Breakthrough T1D, The Diabetes Leadership Council, and the American Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, where she served as President in 2017. She earned her Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist® (CDCES) credential in May 2002 and has been a strong advocate for the certification ever since.

“CBDCE continues to be blessed to have individuals serve on the Board and in other volunteer capacities who are passionate and committed to diabetes care and education and exceptional leadership. With Nancy moving into the role of Chair in 2025, she exemplifies that leadership and expertise, as well as demonstrating her commitment and passion for supporting CDCESs and BC-ADMs and those who use their services. The CBDCE team is incredibly excited to work with Nancy and the Board this year as we kick off a new strategic plan.” said CBDCE’s Chief Executive Officer Sheryl Traficano, MBA, CAE.

“As Chair of CBDCE for 2025, I hope to lead the challenges the Board of Directors set in implementing our new strategic plan. This new plan is bold and visionary as we look to grow our offerings, broaden awareness of our value, and increase the demand for our services. As the prevalence of diabetes continues to rise and access to endocrinology services declines, CBDCE is committed to filling the gaps. We need to build consensus in advocating for our value among the diabetes organizations to carve out our place in a more sustainable, valuebased healthcare system. We must provide improved pathways to the specialty within our academic institutions, especially in addressing our most vulnerable yet underserved populations. And finally, the “diabetes community” must speak in ONE VOICE to best ensure improved access, outcomes, and quality of life for this growing population.”

“I look forward to working with so many esteemed members of the CBDCE Board and staff as we set our sights on the future. We are all excited to welcome our BC-ADM providers and to build our certification offerings across the spectrum of care. Thank you all for the opportunity to serve and lead.” said Nancy D’Hondt.
